 MTV WORLD STAGE LIVE IN MALAYSIA 2010 got off to a rainy start, but the massive downpour did not dampen the enthusiasm of more than 15,000 music fans attending to see Bunkface, Katy Perry, Tokio Hotel and the Wonder Girls perform for the networks’ global live music series, MTV World Stage. With the falling rain coming down, the show had to go on so MTV VJs from all over Asia got the crowd to countdown the official start of the second MTV WORLD STAGE LIVE IN MALAYSIA 2010.
First to take the stage were local rockers Bunkface, who opened their set with “Bunk Anthem,” a favourite for all their hometown fans at Sunway Lagoon Resort.
The Wonder Girls brought a dose of girl-power to the stage and showed the crowd why they’ve become the first Korean artists to make the Billboard Hot 100 in thirty years. As the curtain went up, all five members – Sohee, Yubin, Sun, Yenny and Lim -- broke out of cages and into a medley of their hits “I Wanna” and “Goodbye”. Making their first live appearance in Malaysia, they donned guitars and performed a rock remix of “Two Different Tears” and “Nobody” and after a brief interlude and a video montage, the Wonder Girls returned to the stage decked out in gold sequined gowns to reprise their biggest hit, “Nobody.”

| Tokio Hotel took the stage next and the night took a distinctive rock turn as the biggest band to come out of Germany in decades performed a set that demonstrated why they are taking the music industry by storm. Already possessing a trophy-case full of MTV awards from all over the world, Tokio Hotel gave fans what they were looking for by performing hits off of their current album, Humanoid, including “Automatic” and “World Behind My Wall.” Three glam-rock inspired outfit changes by vocalist Bill Kaulitz and performances of “Monsoon,” “Forever Now” and more was all the reward fans needed for sticking it out in the rain. |

As the rain eased and the clock turned midnight it was time for Kuala Lumpur to welcome the record-breaking #1 artist in the world, Katy Perry. Living up to her reputation as one of pop music’s most colourful performers, Katy made her Malaysian debut atop a giant banana split, kicking off her set with her smash hit, “California Gurls.” Dressed in a bejewelled pink unitard and tutu, the stage transformed to a Candyland-inspired playground as Katy donned a guitar and performed her hits “One of the Boys,” “Waking Up in Vegas,” “I Kissed A Girl” and “Thinking of You.” Also appearing in for the first time in Malaysia, the audience at MTV WORLD STAGE LIVE IN MALAYSIA was also treated to live performances of “Peacock” and the title song from her upcoming album, Teenage Dream.. |
MTV WORLD STAGE LIVE IN MALAYSIA will premiere on MTV channels throughout Asia on 21 August, and will be broadcast in 154 countries to more than 550 million homes worldwide via MTV’s global network (exact airdate to be announced).
